The research deals with the expression of causation in English. The aim of the study was to analyse the ways causation is realised in English on the basis of the evidence drawn from the novel \"The Picture of Dorian Gray\" by O. Wilde. The main objectives were: - to analyse verbal constructions used to express causation at the sentence level; - to analyse causal connectives used to express causation at the sentence and the text level; - to analyse the frequency of occurrence of all causative constructions. The research confirmed the hypothesis that the frequency of causative expressions varies.
